I'm loving the Dark Age Brood minis. I think they're very unique and fun to paint. I get to play with lots of different effects.
On this guy I experimented with shading metallics. I used GW washes, Vallejo smoke, Vallejo Brown Glaze and Reaper Master Series Rush Brown and Chestnut for the rust effects.
I'm really looking forward to being able to field a fully painted Dark Age army!
My little pirate! I'm quite happy with the pants and coat and the NMM, not quite as happy with her hands (not enough definition), the hat (same) and the hair (sloppy). The base is moderately ugly.
My photography is definitely getting better. The only huge issues I still have is skintones. Comparering these pictures with the WIP one taken with flash, the skintones on the WIP have way more depth. Not sure how to fix that though.
Mr. Pudsie here is quite a pain. I'm not happy with how the skin turned out. When I paint the next one, I'll switch the order of the highlights and the glazes. I'm having a hard time getting used to the new GW washes. The pigmentation is just weird. It makes it hard to decide if they should be dilluted or not.
I also managed to place a couple of red fingerprints courtesy of Vallejo Red glaze on this little jerk. Good news is that I managed to control my temper and I did not go into a nerd rage because of it. I really must be getting older and wiser.
I'm going to try really, really hard to finish this one up by tomorrow. I have to go on a business trip Wednesday, and I want him to be done by then!
Playing around with the GW washes. This guys desperately needs a coat of matte varnish on the skin. I thought the new washes were supposed to be matte : /
I finished Jade last night. She was actually quite fun to paint and I got to play with my new GW washes a lot. Today was matte varnish day. I used my W&N brush on matte varnish and made sure to shake it for a loooooong time. I tested it a little on her base, and it looked fine. When I applied it to the mini it resulted in a minor disaster. The varnish seemed to dissolve the thin layers of inks and paint and it started peeling off. I was able to save the paintjob with the help of Vallejo red glaze, but she is still shiny :(
The skin looks terrible on this one. I'm not sure I'm going to bother with fixing it. Might just finish it and see how she looks. I'm more happy with this one. I need to fix her eye and I had some trouble with blending her pants (stupid old paints), but I like the coat.
